Cristiano Ronaldo’s response to texts over following Lionel Messi with transfer to Ligue 1

Cristiano Ronaldo appears to have scoffed off suggestions from fellow Portugal international Jose Fonte that he should follow in the footsteps of his former foe Lionel Messi and join Ligue 1.

When they were both in La Liga, Ronaldo and Messi had a historic rivalry, with Ronaldo turning in world-class performances for Real Madrid and Messi setting comparable high standards for Barcelona.

Messi has recently left Barcelona for PSG, and Fonte confesses that he has attempted to contact Ronaldo about joining him at Lille so the two may rekindle their rivalry in French football.

According to Ronaldo's response to Fonte, he doesn't seem to be taking the offer seriously, although it would surely be something unique.

“I feel great. I feel great because it’s incredible to hear a player like Lionel Messi is in French football in our league,” Fonte told talkSPORT.

“It’s exciting. Obviously in terms of competitors it’s going to be even harder for us but we’re up for a challenge – I’m texting Cristiano to come to Lille every day! He’s only replied ‘ha ha ha’.”
